Last year in the summer of 2015, Sheffield FC launched a global crowdfunding campaign as a bid to move back home to Olive Grove, Sheffield, on the field where football was founded by the pioneers Nathaniel Creswick and William Prest on October 24th, 1857. The goal being to rebuild a stadium and home not only for Sheffield FC but for every football fan in the world.

And a lot has happened since… With the support and donations of more than 2,000 football fans from more than 60 countries, more than 50 football clubs from Champions League level down to grassroots, with the help of local sponsors, supporting companies and international governing bodies, Sheffield FC has been able to raise the equivalent of 150.000 GBP through both monetary donations and services to the club. This has allowed us to kick off the work on one of football’s most exciting campaigns: a global journey back to the original roots of the world’s greatest sport- a new home for football!

With an average match day attendance of 300 and a membership base of close to 600, Sheffield FC Chairman Richard Tims is overwhelmed with the worldwide support: “it’s incredible to see how much power our unique story can unfold and engage football fans from anywhere in the world. Sheffield FC is a global a protector of the beautiful game and a cultural heritage for everyone to be involved with, we are grateful for every loving football fan who joins our path”.

The financial support so far has helped the club’s foundation to share merchandise gifts with supporters and to start the administrative and legal process around this multi-year project. To engage the local business community, Sheffield FC also launched a new sponsorship platform named “Club 1857” to help support the club’s financial challenges and ambitions. While other club driven projects such as the Ladies’ spectacular move into the Super League and the foundation‘s grass roots programs have seen great success, the activities and plans from the Sheffield FC team for Olive Grove are about to reach the next level!
