Football Supporters Europe (FSE) is happy to announce the prolongation of its observer status at the Council of Europe Standing Committee on Spectator Violence.

The 46th meeting of the Standing Committee of the European Convention on Spectator Violence (T-RV), which took place on 30-31 May 2018 at the Council of Europe headquarters in Strasbourg, confirmed the renewal for a period of 3 years. FSE reiterates its commitment to the work of this essential European body.

The Standing Committee brings together representatives from leading governmental agencies with responsibilities for sport safety and security are appointed by the 47 member States. It also welcomes representatives of international sport bodies, non-member States and supporters organisations in an observer capacity. It monitors the implementation of the 1985 European Convention on Spectator Violence and issues recommendation. The convention concerns all sports in general, but in particular football.

The 1985 European Convention needed to be updated, as it did not include and could not face all new challenges and evolutions. A new Convention on an Integrated Safety, Security and Service Approach at Football Matches and Other Sports Events was opened for signature in July 2016 and has now been signed by 30 member States. 6 countries already ratified it.

Its aim is to go from a violence-focused approach towards an integrated approach based on safety, security and service. FSE was consulted in the wording of the recommendations associated to the new Convention, which provide essential tools to facilitate the dialogue between all parties.
FSE is also an active member of the Council of Europe Working Group EURO 2020.
